it!!!! has been a month since i last posted here. a little more than, actually. and since then i have finished precisely Two of the songs i wrote about needing to finish here and now i have MORE and only so much tape space. so to motivate myself to get my damned songs in order i am going to post about what i need to do again. in order of recentness:
- NO SIGNAL: this started out like two years ago as an attempt to write a song with vaguely mountain goats-themed stylings, it was a minute long and it stunk. i've also been toying with it for nearly as long because i want it to become a thing, and i DO have a long version with lyrics and all, it's just that i've ALSO being toying with like three and a half lines total over about a year to make them not bad and every time i fail. maybe it's time to leave this one behind for scraps... i dunno
- WT MIRRORBALL: there's a longer demo of this i did a month ago as a quick acoustic sketch, if i can write better words for the chorus i'm still seriously musing doing a new rendition as the intro to the tape but that depends on IF i can write better words. right now it's just some weird scraps i had lying around about captchas and stuff. it's a fun tiny one, i'm just afraid it'll never become more than a tiny one because it feels like it's threatening to become so much more if that makes sense. but i'm also like 70 minutes of songs deep for this damn thing and if i wind up with less than half an hour of material over double the timespan it took to write and record the horn o'plenty i might go crazy
- WT SHIPWRECK: i came up with this as a fucked up metaphor laden thing! i'm using what was gonna be a song called Teenage Whirlwind that i last referred to here as Kaleidoscope as part of the bones. the plan is i'm gonna do it like the song that i'm shitcanning for now called Remote Control which was gonna be done in modular fragments SMiLE-STyLE, and record the two acoustic sections together and then record a different organ-heavy section instrumentally on the tape and then bounce it to one of the next set of tapes i get for overdubs (vocals and leads and stuff). i dunno if i can get that done before 2025 but it'll be in heavy consideration for the next tape at least... i could demo one of the acoustic bits as filler maybe, i dunno. this tape is hard to work on
- MOIRAIL W/ BENEFITS: i don't know if this is still going on the tape!!! honestly i already forgot i was gonna do another rendition. i remember doing new words and some new music but i dunno where those text files or the recording went... probably somewhere. maybe i should leave this in the parts/repair pile too.
- I REALLY THINK SOMEONE OUGHTA...: this one could get me in trouble but like, the music is done and the lyrics are just about there, i just gotta make the bridge sound less like another song i wrote recently and then it's just a matter of recording. i didn't write it about anyone in specific but i'm also very aware it could be interpretaed as being about someone.
- WT THE STRANGER SONG: i came up with this like a week ago after listening to the frogs album Hopscotch Lollipop Sunday Surprise. the opening cut is this groovy, almost foreboding one with a drum machine and super crazy chords and i kinda wanted to encapsulate that vibe in a song. the chords are a bit too similar to Tybee Island Horse Ghosts by Car Seat Headrest right now but I think I deliver the music and melody differently enough to where it's like, not the SAME song, just from a similar idea i think! this one needs words but if i can put those together it will be very exciting
i think my productivity has become functionally nonexistent since the election and i wanna get bits of it back. i think since i'm low on tape space these ones are most likely:
- MIRRORBALL
- I REALLY THINK...
- SHIPWRECK (ACOUSTIC BITS)
and if i can get my hands on more tapes soon, i'll probably do these before too long too:
- MOIRAIL WITH BENEFITS, maybe as a soundtest again
- SHIPWRECK (SYNTHY BITS)
- THE STRANGER SONG assuming the lyrics are done
oh yeah i did live bass for escape from noise yesterday too when my old homie Nate was here, we jammed over bad to the bone and talked about life and music. it was awesome. he's cool
