i think it is fair to say i am maybe in the weeds with the sequel to the horn o'plenty so to motivate myself to have this damned thing done before 2025 i'm gonna start writing about what i need to do here. here we goooooo
- ESCAPE FROM NOISE: this song has been written for like, a week (with help from Juno for the chorus), and i was on my way to recording drums and bass a day or two ago until my friend Arin pulled me into a call for something which lead to me not really having time to do that. i think of the things i wanna do musically today, doing base tracks or maybe the whole of this would be a good idea - i'm still getting the hang of the Gdim7 in the chorus but it's nothing I haven't done before.
- FKA KALEIDOSCOPE: this oneeee is way more fragmental! like, basically just the guitar riff and loose structure and idea for what i want the lyrics to do. i did a demo for octemple this year just so i had a song to put the riff in, but i dunno how much i want the final song to be like that since that version was basically just me ripping off Tree Hugger by Rugburns. i do want to do something with it though.
- REMOTE CONTROL: i came up with this last night, it's this weird doo wop track based on the bones of an old song that i never finished about a video game. part of me wants to get a bit Good Vibrations with the structure but I dunno if my weird brand of indie folk would benefit from that + the idea in my mind would require some crazy digital splicing that i'm not 100% convinced i can pull off yet. we'll see, i REALLY REALLY like the music but the lyrics are just kinda skeletal stuff i came up with to have something to sing.
- MOIRAIL W/ BENEFITS: i did a recording of this already, but i fleshed out the lyrics recently and structurified it a bit more - it might be a bit too basic to put on the tape but i've got a bit more than half an hour's worth of tape left before i have to buy more so i guess doing a rendition couldn't completely hurt. still gotta think it over though, i wanna give the song more depth before i fully decide on including it
- CAVE PAINTING: oh jesus this is a whole thing. i did a 4-track-esque digital demo on my computer a few months ago but 4-track-esque is not actual 4-track and i'm not sure i can get the song in a state i am satisfied with without bouncing - i could do a stereo instrumental w/ double tracked guitars but that would require me constantly monitoring the tape when bouncing it to another cassette since the first line input on my 4-track is VERY finnicky and i'd be using a 1/8 to RCA to dual 1/4 mono bastard cable for this, i'm just afraid if the instrumental was mono it wouldn't give the song enough depth. also gotta think it over even though i'm really proud of this one, i hope i can figure out a way. i guess the fact i have a semi-arranged version already could help me work this out
in order of how likely i see myself finishing these + shortlisting them for the tape it probably looks like:
- ESCAPE FROM NOISE
- CAVE PAINTING
- REMOTE CONTROL
- FKA KALEIDOSCOPE
- MOIRAIL W/ BENEFITS
Escape From Noise and Cave Painting are like, 90% of the way there, I just gotta figure them out. Cave is one I can probably do w/o bouncing if I dumb it down to being the DR-110 + overdriven guitar + bass + vocal with punched-in solo, I just dunno if that's enough.
hope you're OK, we're going to get through this together
