so i listened to tom 7's album-a-day GGGCAGGG from... (checks) 2004-ish today! i knew Mario Kart Skills, the title track, and Reason already, and i think that might have biased me to expect stuff on par with that when i listened. i kinda forgot it was based on the whole "creating just to create" thing. that isn't to say it's bad!! like, all of the songs are at the very least Good. and most of them average Quite Good. it's just that - as you might expect from an album that has 17 songs made in a day - a lot of the songs feel very short and sketch-y, which isn't bad! i mean, i listen to They Might Be Giants and Guided By Voices all the time, and they're not exactly known for getting super prog rock with it. i guess going on about this is missing the point though, it's really good anyways. check out the songs i mentioned earlier if you want good tasters, they're also the ones marked with hearts on tom's website.

i've also been listening to a lot of DLIMC - i've listened to the five or six cassingles that are "out there" like, two or three times today. to my understanding he did one for every month of 2015 but only the ones for February, July, and September through November are out there. what IS out there is the best punk-infused jangly pop songs imaginable. mushrooms on my ass is a personal favorite of mine: as the name suggests, it's a song about growing mushrooms on your ass. magic mushrooms, actually ("it was really quite a sight / when your daddy peaked that night"). where else are you gonna find the words steppes and assholes and stupefied in the same song? surely nowhere, right? oh yeah, the b-side (i've been livin' in) macaulay culkin's brain is pretty damn good too. it's very DEVO-esque.

within the realm of my own music, my friend's label (^_^) is putting out the august demo on the 30th!! it's six songs of awesome and it's gonna be available on CD-R. you oughta check it out. in the meantime, i've been recording a bunch of songs on the TDK blanks I got, a mix of older ones like Scary Place and Sunbeams Come Down and newer ones like Just a Theory (a song i wrote today!) and... i dnuno i guess Trucknutz technically counts? i might be buying a tape deck soon to do duplication for my own stuff and my friends' stuff, so i'm considering making a comp of 30 minutes of the best stuff from this month and next month's recording sessions and sending it to friends and well-wishers as a demo. maybe i'll call it, like, the Horn O'Plenty Tape or something. i think about Ween's demo tapes a lot and I wanna name something like the fucked up shit they name their tapes. we'll see... the tape deck costs a lot but i think it'll be a worthwhile investment indeed.

actually, you know what, if you're reading this you're probably cool! have an mp3 of Scary Place, i posted it on tumblr anyways. i wanna do a better transfer to EQ some gremlins and nasties out but aside from that i think it's done, even though the vocal take ain't my finest work. i'll figure that out eventually, i don't really like overwriting things but something sometimes there is no other option.

hope you're holding up!! time for some songs that aren't the ones i listed.
